FAQ

Q: I'm a student, can I help at AZGiveCamp?

A: Maybe. If you are technically savvy and willing to try things and figure-out how to do them with little guidance except for what you can find on the Internet, then yes you can make a contribution.

Q: Will you train me to do this work?

A: No, but you may be able to train yourself. We usually have access to materials like books and training videos available to AZGiveCamp participants. If you are the type of person who can read up on a topic, or watch a video, then make it happen, we can use your help at AZGiveCamp. Remember that we are going to be under fairly severe time constraints. As a result, other developers will have very limited time to help you learn.

Q: Can I put AZGiveCamp projects on my resume?

A: Absolutely! When you interview for a job, you are going to be asked about projects you've worked on. What better example could you give then a real-world project, with a real-world development team, under real-world time constraints.

Q: I like doing graphics work, what kind of things might I be doing at AZGiveCamp?

A: People who are good at graphics design are always in demand at GiveCamps. You might be asked to produce theme graphics such as logos and buttons for a website, or perhaps asked to design the look-and-feel of a web page or desktop app.

Q: I like doing web development, what kind of things might I be doing at AZGiveCamp?

A: Much of the work we do at AZGiveCamp is web based. Because of our time constraints, and because we want to be able to turn these projects over to the NPOs and not have to support them down the road (see What level of support will we be providing for these projects after the event?) we often make use of Content Management Systems like Orchard, Wordpress, and SiteFinity in our development. All of these systems require that pages be created and layed-out, and then content added. Most require some level of skinning to provide the desired look-and-feel. These tasks are the most likely ones for web developers at AZGiveCamp.
