FAQ

Q: What skill sets are needed to participate in AZGiveCamp?

A: We need development professionals of all sorts, including software developers and architects, web developers, designers, analysts and project managers. We also need anyone with a talent for organizing and a passion for supporting the non-profit and charity community, regardless of their technical skills.

Q: It’s called GiveCamp. Do you mean like an actual camp with tents and s’mores?

A: Sort of! The goal of the event is to go from concept to finished product in the course of a weekend, which can mean a lot of long hours. Some people decide to arrive on Friday and don’t leave for the whole weekend, which is all part of the fun. First class accommodations are provided – assuming your idea of first class accommodations is your own bedroll and an open space on the floor!

Q: What do I need to bring?

A:You must bring your own laptop computer with the tools you'll need to make your contribution. We're all professionals here and we all have our own tools. Other things you might want to bring include a bedroll, toiletries, and changes of clothing. Even if you aren't planning on spending the night, it is a good idea to bring some of these things along in case plans change.

Q: Can I pick which project I work on?

A: Sometimes. If you have a preference for what non-profit or what technology you work with, please let us know and we'll do our best to accomodate all requests.

Q: What level of support will we be providing for these projects after the event?

A: Typically, none. What happens at GiveCamp stays at GiveCamp. You are not responsible for supporting what you build, which means, you should do everything in your power to make it supportable by the charity after the event. Understanding what IT support they have available is probably a good start and will likely lead you in one direction or another with regard to what you build for them. Ocassionaly, some technologists choose to continue the relationship with the non-profit and support them after-the-fact. That is allowed, but not encouraged or required.

Q: Can I put together my own team for the event?

A: You don't need to recruit your own team, but you are more than welcome to do so if you want to. If you do, be sure to have all members sign-up on the website and use an agreed-upon name as the team name on the form.

Q: I like food. Will there be food?

A: We want you to be able to focus on your development for the weekend so all meals, snacks and drinks are provided.

Q: Will there be swag? Prizes? Awards?

A: Even though nobody comes to these events because of the swag & prizes, they still can be fun and nice to get, especially if they are useful. We do our best to provide some high-quality swag and prizes for AZGiveCamp attendees.
